The charity-shop of Menedékház Foundation called the Mosaik has come to life in the summer of 2012 thanks to a tender opportunity. It is located in the 7th District in Budapest (36 Dohány Street ).
The primary aim of this project is to utilize the large amount of donations given to the Foundation or rather to employ the clients taken care of the Foundation in a secure environment.
In the beginning the tender ensured financial stability, however the charity-shop has become self-sufficient over the years. At the same time the Mosaic has become the member of the Charity Retail Association.
The daily number of customers is between 25-30. They are mostly Hungarian citizens in the 30-60 age range. At least the half of them are regular customers who stop by for a treasure
hunt every day, as the stockpile flares daily.
Fun fact is that men and women visit the shop at an equal rate. It is also true that in most cases those who bring in their redundant gears are the ones who come in to buy other’s goods and chattels.
Since the design change the number of foreign customers has increased, as they can read every piece of information in connection with the shop in English as well.
Our plan is, following the Western model, to cooperate with Hungarian and foreign volunteers in the hope that it would raise the profit. We also plot to design a webshop for the mongering
of the most valuable goods.
Furthermore there is a plan afoot to establish a social cooperation, since we have high hopes for the incomings of these two marts to reach the annual tax-free limit; so it would be
expedient to maintain them separately.
