What is the 1% tax?

Per the Hungarian 1% Law, you can request that 1% of your previous year´s paid Hungarian personal income taxes be given to support the activities of a non-profit organization without any loss to your income. A second 1% may also be given to a church/religious organization*. Designating your 1% is easy, confidential, and enables Hungarian taxpayers to support worthy causes in Hungary at no financial cost.

The 1% law is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate public support and raise funds for a special cause. Menedekhaz Foundation is grateful to receive 1% designations each year to support our mission.

*The Hungarian National Talent Program is the only alternative to a church/religious organization to which you may designate your second 1%. 

How do I designate my 1%?

To submit your 1+1% designation(s) electronically, separately or as part of the tax return process, use the Ügyfélkapu if you are registered (in Hungarian only), and submit your request by May 20, 2021.

To submit your 1+1% designation(s) in writing, complete the Hungarian declaration form. If you wish for Menedekhaz Foundation to receive your first 1%, you need fill the designation form with the Foundation’s Tax Number (18262304-1-43).

1) Enclose your 1% declaration in a sealed 16cmx11.5cm envelope. Sign the envelope across the sealed flap and write your name, your adress, tax number, and number of declarations on the front of the envelope. Then put the small envelope into a larger, stamped envelope and mail it to your local NAV Customer Service Office separately from the tax return by May 20, 2021.

2.) Mail the completed form to your local NAV Customer Service Office at the same time as you submit written corrections to your 2020 draft tax return by May 20, 2021.

If you wish to designate your 1% to Menedekhaz Foundation, the below information should be included in your declaration:

Tax Number of Recipient Organization: 18262304-1-43

After making your declaration, the tax authorities will transfer your donation directly to your selected charity. If you wish for Menedekhaz Foundation to be informed of your contribution, please add your name and contact details and tick the box in the first section of the form, authorizing the release of your personal information to us as the beneficiary of your gift.
